On social media, someone asked why we can’t just “tell” when we have to “show” when the word “tell” is in the word “storytelling.” Here is my answer.
In the case of “storytelling,” the meaning of “telling” is more “narrating.” To narrate is to sketch out or chronicle the story. When you tell a good story, there’s never a dull moment. Not everyone can tell a good story. In fact, true storytelling takes skill IMHO. Anyone can learn the craft of stringing sentences together, but not everyone is a natural-born storyteller.
