So today was the day, way back in 1517, that Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses about Christianity, including his notes about Christ, not the church, being the savior of mankind. At they time, the German church (Catholic) was making people pay them “indulgences” if they wanted their sins forgiven. Truth is, only God can forgive sins. And priests in churches are not gods, and thus cannot forgive sins. To be forgiven of your sin, the only thing they would need to do is place their faith in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, who died on the cross to save us from our sins. Luther was excoriated and pretty much chased off (and eventually excommunicated) for translating the Bible from Latin into the common German vernacular so that the people can see for themselves that the Bible said that salvation is in Christ and Him alone.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
