While It is Still Day...

John 9 4

"I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4).

A mish-mash of writerly thoughts. From time to time, these things pop up among my author circles, and I sometimes have two cents to add. This is my news desk, but sometimes I still do blog (this news desk began as a blog called A Cup of Chai in which I wrote about the perks and perils of the writing life and such).

If you’re a writer struggling to find time to write...

Seasons. A wonderfully wise author—thank you, Laura Frantz!—once told me that we have "seasons in life" and "seasons in writing." At that time, my son was entering middle school, and I was so busy homeschooling him I hardly had any time to write my colonial fiction (what I was researching at that time). God provides a time and place for everything... There is a a time to plan, a time to plot, a time to outline, a time to pen, and time to proofread, a time to publish, a time to promote... See, I'm using alliterations. So it's all good.

There is a time to plan…
A time to plot/outline…
A time to pen…
A time to proofread…
A time to publish…
A time to promote…

If you’re a writer suffering from envy...

As for envy, IMHO the solution is more books. I love to see indies succeed. I don't envy any author in my author circles who succeeds—I will cheer you on. If you're serving the Lord, you're a success story. And envy will die a sudden death if you focus on writing your own next books. Don't look to the left and right. Don't look at other people's bank accounts or bazillion BookBub ads or big successes (hehe—more alliterations). Just focus on your own business, and let God grow your own backyard garden. Love these alliterations! I will blog now…

And now back to writing my next book...

Joyfully,
Jan
